Starbucks makes bold pledge for the environment |
Said yesterday, that ALL of its cups will be recyclable or reusable by 2015. If anyone is positioned to make this happen (see article) it is Starbucks (and maybe McDonalds).
Starbucks has demonstrated leadership in this area, being the first to get the US government to approve and a manufacturer (Solo) to produce a paper hot cup with recycled content. This cup is now increasingly avaialable in their "Bare" design.
Something to watch as the next few years unfold......

China, The Olympics and Delays |
I was reminded today that as fun as it is to watch The Olympics on TV, they are actually having a bit of a negative effect on distributors and end users of disposables (and many other products).
The Chinese Government essentially shut down much of their manufacturing sector leading up to (and continuing all the way through) The Olympics. This was done in a (futile?) effort to clear the air of pollution prior to the arrival of athletes and tourists from around the world.
It has only affected our main businesses (BaristaWorks.com, QwikStock.com and CaterStock.com ) in a very limited way – (one item - a plastic spoon straw) but we – by design – are trying to buy almost entirely from North American suppliers. I suspect those who are more dependent on imports (unless they brought a lot of extra product in early) are hurting.
